Elementary Course Article Started
on 15 Mar 03, a special debut of Adults & Children Social Dance Elementary
Class of 10 sessions was conducted in Ulu Pandang Community Centre after
a long wait of 5 months to obtain People's Association's (PA) Approval.
Yes, this special class could have been conducted in private studios with
much less hassle, could charge a higher fee and would have pocketed a
more reasonable dance instructor remuneration. However, Robin and Pele
strongly believe that this special course will be of benefit to the public
and all families with limited means should have a chance to enjoy it too.

displayed. This is the second time since we partner each other for a decade
(10 years) that another true professional photographer with no dancing
background managed to capture us in the latest championship for which
we are extremely very thankful. Being fellow professional photographers,
we understand the heartaches, the high costs and wastages involved in
photographing dancers.RpMerleon, being highly rated dancesport photographers (many of you told us so) have its disadvantages as we can never capture ourselves in dancesport actions. Seems that our dance standard in modern is definitely up to par for other professional photographers to accurately capture us on photos after all! more >> |

May 2003 - Temperature Check @Leng Kee
Community Club Hall Confidence among the dancing community returns and all dance practice venues should learn from Leng Kee CC ballroom dancing committee members. They have just implemented a compulsory temperature check before anyone can enter the hall for dance practice on every Friday, 7-9:45pm. Those whose temperature fall within the accepted range will be given a sticker with the CC's stamp certifying good health, to be displayed prominently on your top clothings. Clean antiseptic cotton swaps were used to sterilise the various ear thermometers and were thrown away after each wipe. The temperature check station cum personnel were also located in an openly ventilated area, away from the air-conditioned dance hall. The hall entrance was also guarded vigilantly by very high spirited members who spoke with repetitive machine gun like urgent tones, will gesticulate their ears and point outside. Just ask them to calm down and speak slowly and you will be redirected to the temperature check station first before being allowed to pay for entry. Our highest salute to this committee who adopted all good practices and recommended procedures to ensure the continual good health of local dancers. As mentioned before, dance enthusiasts please be vigilant and do yourself and the community a favour by measuring your own temperature daily. Do consult a doctor if needed and do not go out if you do not feel well to avoid catching viruses in your weakened state. Drink minimum 3 liters of plain water daily, eat plenty of fruits and vegetables of various colour, do chew on that vitamin C and zinc tablet like what your mama told you, drink whatever herbal concoction that your mama brew for you, use lots of antibacterial wash or antiseptic hand cream (always carry one bottle with you), do not shake hands or hug or kiss your friends (greet in Thai fashion or the Chinese Kong fu way), do not share food and utensils and remember to keep up with the exercises to remain in good health. Heed the words of wisdom from RpMerleon and you will be all right. |

20 Apr 03 Championships New! RpMerleon has always wanted to create a database driven result search software for the enjoyment of readers but do not have any sponsors and coupled with difficulties in obtaining results from the organisers, has given up this thought for years. By chance just came across this new internet software developed from UK (England) which provides the exact RpMerleon requirement. You can search for championship results, individual competing couple results, cross reference their backgrounds or even compare them with another competitor couple. Note the interesting correct placement of couples in the semi-final rounds, the data was most probably provided by a returning UK adjudicator direct from that championship. You can also check which competitor couple ranked by SGDF was sent to represent Singapore in the Indonesia IDSF 2002 and the prestigious Japan IDSF 2003 this year. 03 Championship on iShop Received feedbacks that some competitors have searched in vain for their photos on iShop. Please be informed that RpMerleon is respecting SGDF (formally ADSA) committee members' decision in the latest AGM held on 3 Feb 02 and try not to capture any of their members in action unless specifically requested by the members concerned, their parents or their dance coaches. Thus, all Singapore competitors who took part on 20 Apr 03 (all grades) and 30 Mar 03 (Grade A & C) championships will have the SGDF ruling applied to them as stated in RpMerleon Forum write-up here. RpMerleon would like to gently remind everyone to also respect RpMerleon's Conditions of Use Rule 12 and refrain from surfing any of RpMerleon websites if you fit the bill. As Pele is now a full-fledged Licentiate Member of the Masters Photographer Association (one of Top 3 World recognised Professional Photographer Bodies), RpMerleon has to abide strictly to UK (England) photography rules and Singapore business laws. RpMerleon will not hesitate to prosecute anyone caught slandering RpMerleon with false accusation or spreading untruths as we are very tired of explaining the professional photography market practices since October 2001. Closed: CC Practice Venue & Stricter Health Check @ Dynasty Ballroom Ballroom dancers to take note that another practice venue, Siglap South Community Club dance studio will be closed for a month starting yesterday to 15 May 03 as a preventive measure against SARS among dancers. There will be no practice nights during this period. Dynasty Ballroom has imposed stricter visual health screening and temperature checks on every staff & patron who steps into its venue, including all dancers. Patrick/Manager received applause when the new measure was announced and imposed starting on 13 Apr 03 during afternoon tea dance. Many felt that Dynasty Management is very diligent and responsible in implementing such measures. |

iShop Sad and embarrassed faces were aplenty on championship day with many competitors expressing disappointment in not entering the finals or not being placed at higher final positions. Rest assured that such occurrences are very common so be brave, practice smart and try for the next championship. Always put on a genuine smile and remember to congratulate the winners sincerely. 2001- 2002. Unfortunately, they were told by the organiser that the
gigantic golden trophy on the right is not their keepsake unless they
win another 2 more years. Phew! Tough to be champions here! Vincent
Thoo & Christine Chia / Singapore were another defending champions
(2002-2003) for the Masters Standard Category. Latin categories were
mainly won by students of the same dance studio.
