Representatives were from Macau, China, Singapore and HK. The Singapore contingent consists of Siow Liang and Cheryl, Ken Loh & Su Mei Heng & Serene, Eugene and Jessica, Dennis & Partner, Roger Kwa and Mariam, Steven & Triena. Singapore spectators supporters include: Roger Kwa's father, Cheryl's mother Siow Liang's mother, Sophie, Doreen and Ah Kong. The Latin Demo was superb! It was by Sandro Cavilano and Hannah, one of the best demonstration that I've seen. The main Organiser, Lawrence and Gertrude also gave a mixture of Modern in chinese costume and bit of latin. We enjoyed the competition and the stay in HK. "

Will dance lessons conducted via other mediums (videos, CD-ROM, WEB etc) take up in Singapore and utimately be popular? Will Singapore dance instructors belief in these other methods and start producing such instructional mediums? Will these other non-traditional dance instruction media overtake & eventually replace the traditional live dance classes? What do RpMerleon readers think? more write-up >>

The first competition of the year in Singapore was the Dynasty Dance Competition Series. The event was well supported by new competitors (no doubt encouraged by the $300 prize money) with about 10 modern and 20 latin couples taking part. Check out the results here! The very next competition was ADSA National Ranking competition held the next day also at Dynasty.
According to a very reliable source, it seems that in Singapore and Malaysia the dances for Novice Modern are Waltz and Quickstep and for Novice Latin they are Cha Cha and Jive. However everywhere else in the world they have more or less standardised on Waltz and Tango for Novice Modern and Cha Cha and Rumba for Novice Latin. We have learnt that at least one major competition in Singapore this year will change their Novice level dances to be in line with the rest of the world. So start working on your other dances and be prepared!
Due to increased work load (with less pay), Robin is unable to devote as much time as he would have liked to ADSA. Therefore, he has resigned from the ADSA EXCO to enable other interested members to continue the work. For more information on future ADSA activities, please contact the President of ADSA, Ng Geng Whye directly.
