RpMerleon Studios registered a record 8 couples for the international studded ballroom dance competition on Sunday 30 November 2008 with a bonaza of 17 Medals won by 7 competitor pairs! RpMerleon's Dance Director Ms Pele Lim (林蓓蕾) was invited to be one of the judges at this international competition.
A number of RpMerleon competitors were new but decided to take the opportunity to build up their courage and improve their standard of dancing which is commendable taking into consideration that majority of RpMerleon students are full-time working professionals in multiple fields, some are Doctors, Accountants, IT specialists, Bankers, Trainers, Sales, Chemists & Navy Scholar etc.
All couples danced well with very good results to boast and perhaps, some of them got a little bit of ear twistings from Pele.
The biggest trophy was won by William & Valerie, champions in Pre-Medalist Cha Cha & they also obtained a 4th position medal in the Pre-Medalist Waltz category. Well done mates and now you can fulfill your dream, enchant your wedding guests with 2 graceful & beautific no stress, no worry dances and throwing in some wonderful techniques to wow them in a few months time.
The most number of trophies was achieved by Weili & Madeleine who won tripple 1st Runner-ups for Medalist Slow Foxtrot, Quickstep & Viennese Waltz. A 2nd Runner-up trophy for Medalist Tango & a 4th medal position in the Slow Waltz were also won by them. Both got an earful from Pele & promised to listen more to Robin & Pele's coaching from now onwards in order to obtain more even results in all 5 dances. Time to move up to the next competitive categories mates!
The next 2 pairs who won 3 medals each are Kwong & Woan San for coming in 5th for Slow Foxtrot, 6th for both the Waltz & Quickstep. Hey, your trainers are still waiting for a treat from you for being the competitors that stagnate the longest. The other pair is Kenneth & Teresa for achieving medals 5th in both Viennese Waltz & Quickstep & 6th in Slow Foxtrot.
Kenneth & Jinghua came in 5th for both Medalist Samba & Jive. Keep up the good work mates, at least this time can see your hips moving & having good leg work too, just need to work on competitive routines for the next round and the trophies will be there for you to grab.
Worthy of mention are these 2 pairs: Han Yu & Huimei obtained 1st Runner-up in Pre-Medalist Cha Cha and your Trainers were expecting you to open a bottle of champaigne & drink from your trophy immediate after the award ceremony! Cheng Wei & Kaixin got 5th position in Pre-Medalist Waltz and Pele was proud that you made a conscientious effort in your appearance, love Kaixin's rose. A big round of applause for taking the first steps in trying to dance better by competing. clap...clap...clap........
RpMerleon Studios' competitors are all very serious about DanceSport and this competition, so much so that they even engaged their good friend who's extremely good in photography to snap only them while they compete.
What to do, Singapore's best DanceSport Photographers Robin & Pele now gone full time into coaching dance after spending approximately S$20K each time they go overseas training by Blackpool top 50 competitors for the last 7 years and being motivated by the Blackpool finalists/semi-finalists to help bring up local dancesport standards by coaching as many locals who want to excel as possible. Singapore's loss but DanceSport's gain!
